Pretty cool how there was a Union General in the American Civil War who was an early communist and fought explicitly for the cause of abolition. Also pretty cool that Engels served under his command in Europe in what’s widely believed to be the first army in the world to ever March under a red banner instead of a national flag. Also extremely funny that he was not just a contemporary of Marx when they both fled to Britain but a rival in the early days of The Communist League who butted heads with him so badly that he once challenged him to a duel. Also maybe he was gay.
